Patent Protection

Arête has filed a provisional patent application covering 172 autoimmune diseases to protect its insights and initial work, including pathogenesis, detection of bio-markers, arresting progression, prophylactic prevention, and ultimately, genetic engineering of mutations, preventing relevant disease altogether. 


Arête Discoveries has filed national patents for:

  • Arresting progression of multiple sclerosis
  • Arresting progression of Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Arresting progression of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
  • Arresting progression of Parkinson’s Disease

Intelectual Property Legal Representation

Arête's intellectual property team is led by in house Chief Legal Officer, Michael McGurk.  Michael works with outside counsel Brenda Jarrell, J.D, Ph.D, at Choate, Hall & Stewart, LLP, in Boston.  Dr. Jarrell is co-chair of Choate's Intellectual Property and Life Sciences Groups.  On September 12, 2017, Choate announced that Dr. Jarrell has been named Patent Strategy & Management Attorney of the Year for Massachusetts by LMG Life Sciences. She has received the 2016 "Women Worth Watching" award and was named "Intellectual Property Trailblazer" by The National Law Journal.
